One of the wonderful things about the iPhone is that there seems to be a app for just about everything.  One of my favorite apps for the iPhone is a cell phone GPS tracking app called Find My iPhone.  With this app, you can use any computer to locate your a iPhone  in a matter of seconds.  In order to use a service, you’ll need to subscribe to a pay service called MobileMe but you can try MobileMe for 60 days for free.  If you decide that you really like MobileMe and would like to keep using MobileMe and Find My iPhone after the completion of the 60 days, you’ll be billed $99.00 for a year subscription.

For those of you who decide you want to try the Find My iPhone cell phone tracker application, you will download and install the application onto your phone and subscribe to MobileMe.  When you have completed that, you are ready to try it out to make sure that everything is configured and working properly.  To test it out you will simply go to the MobileMe website and enter your user ID and password.  After successfully logging into the MobileMe website, you will see the location of your cell phone with a couple of mouse clicks.  Your cell phones location will be displayed on a computer generated map on the computer screen.

Being able to locate a lost or stolen iPhone is one of the useful purposes of this cell phone tracking application but it’s not the only useful purpose.  There are also two security features that are extremely useful.  The first of these features simply sends a code to the phone that causes the phone to lock itself and make it useless and none of the information that is on the phone will be accessible to the person who either stole or found the phone.  The second of these two feature should not be used unless you don’t think you’re ever going to get your phone back.  This feature will permanently erase any of your personal information from the phone so that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands and be used in the wrong way.
