Wrinkle filler botox injections have increased in popularity over recent years. Women and men both elect to receive Botox treatments in an effort to fight the signs of age. The general public, however, may or may not know that Botox contains a neurotoxin produced by Clostridium Botulinim. In other words, Botox is closely related to the bacteria that causes food poisoning, otherwise called botulism.
Even though Botox is derived from a less than glamorous source, treatments remain an option for many youth oriented individuals. Botox injections are said to be harmless to humans, although it is worth noting that every body can react differently to the same substance. The strain of Botlulinim used in cosmetic treatments is not a carbon-copy of the food born illness. A purified form is used for cosmetic reasons.
Plastic surgeons usually administer Botox wrinkle fillers to their patient’s on an out-patient basis. A syringe with a needle is used to treat the skin. The main purpose of Botox is to greatly decrease the mobility of facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Laugh lines and crow’s-feet around eyes are common areas that are treated. Patient’s that opt for this type of cosmetic treatment understand in advance results are not permanent. Many patient’s become routine customers.
The Botox injection site itself can become red and tender after initial exposure to the needle and agent. Again, reactions will differ from person to person. Typically, unwanted side effects include swelling at the injection site, along with bruising, and localized numbness. In some instances nausea and headaches have been reported. Pain medication is frequently prescribed to patient’s before their appointment. They are directed to take the pain medication on the day of the procedure to alleviate possible discomfort. Candidates for Botox include people who would rather have traditional surgery or those that cannot receive laser treatments, due to other medical conditions.
