There can be no question that the U.S.  is seeing some rather rough waters in terms of the economy these days.  Many people who are struggling to get by from day to day wonder if they’ll ever be able to buy their own piece of property to build a home or cabin on.  Believe it or not, it is still possible to buy land in this tough economy even if your bank turns you down.

There is a guy named Michael Long who sells land in South Central Oregon who caters to people who might be having a hard time getting a loan from a bank.  He has been selling properties that he finances himself in this particular area for the last 25 years.  He realizes that many people don’t have good credit and doesn’t believe that doing credit checks is the best way to find out if a particular person is a good if risk for a loan.  Because of this, he doesn’t do any credit checks at all.

If you can come up with a couple hundred dollars for a down payment and make monthly payments of about $180, you qualify to buy land from him.  Most of the properties that he sells are between one and three acres in size and many of them are in the forest surrounded by beautiful trees and wildlife.

All of the properties are zoned residential and manufactured homes and large animals are also approved.  Some of the properties have power and phone but others don’t.  Many people purchase lots without power and install solar panels for wind turbines to live off the grid.  This is very popular in Oregon and it’s gaining popularity in other parts of the country as well.  One of the advantages to living off the grid is that not many people want to do it.  This means that you will be unlikely to have any close neighbors if you buy land from Michael.
