Male Laser Hair Removal Information
In this day and age, more and more men are opting for male laser hair removal. In the past, laser hair removal was almost exclusively reserved for women and the upper class. Times are changing and more and more men are realizing the value of male laser hair removal.
While most women get the hair on their face and legs removed, men typically get laser removal on their chest and backs. Some men get laser facial hair removal treatments done on their face, but most men don’t mind shaving their face so they generally don’t get it done there.
Men with very hairy chests or backs are often interested in hair removal. They are especially interested, because it is impossible for them to shave their backs themselves. Some men are quite embarrassed by how much chest and back care they have, which makes the laser a good option for them.
A laser hair procedure doesn’t actually permanently remove the hair. What it actually does is slow down the regrowing of hair in the treated areas. The way laser hair removal actually works is kind of interesting. Dark substances generally absorb light and lights subjects generally reflect light. Individual hairs grow from a very small area called a follicle. Hair follicles generally contain a substance called melanin. Melanin is the substance that is responsible for giving skin it’s color and hair its color. When the laser is applied to the follicle, the dark melanin in the follicle absorbs the majority of the heat. This heat damages the follicle and inhibits future hair growth.
Male laser hair removal works best with people who have fairly light complexions and dark course hair. This is because the dark hair absorbs the most light and the light skin reflects it. People who have dark skin like African Americans may be poor choices for this type of hair removal because if the correct laser isn’t used, they stand a chance of developing severe burns. There are lasers that are specially made for dark skinned individuals, but the process of laser hair removal generally isn’t quite as effective as it is with people that have light skin and dark hair.
