Dr. A.T.W. Simeons developed the HCG diet back in 1950. He came out with his book called Pounds and Inches. HCG means Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, which is a hormone present during pregnancy and is extracted from the urine. It was found that men and women could loose between one to three pounds a day following this five hundred calorie a day diet. You can have injections done or take this orally. The way it works is it takes stored body fat and releases it through the kidneys.

In 2007, Kevin Trudeau’s book, The Weight Loss Cure was released. He made a few changes to the original diet, due to they way in which animals differ today with injections of antibiotics and hormones, as well as the way our food is processed.

Before the HCG Diet Plan

Before starting the HCG diet, you should go to your doctor and have blood work done, as it is tailored to your blood type if you are using the injection method. You can do the injections yourself and they are done on a daily basis up to forty-five days. If you prefer to do this diet with the oral drops, you still need to see your doctor to make sure that you are healthy and able to start on this diet. The injection way is the more effective choice of the two methods.

While on this diet, you must follow the food guidelines set out. It is imperative that you do this or you will not loose the weight. On five hundred calories a day, you will more than likely be hungry but this generally subsides after a few weeks on the diet. Vigorous exercising is not recommended while on this diet as your body is already using enough calories from the stored fat and it could actually be dangerous. Yoga is recommended and once you are off the hormones you can go back to any type of exercising you prefer. Go to your doctor and find out if the HCG weight loss plan is right for you!
