It happens every summer, sooner or later you will be taking your shirt off in front of others and you will have two possible reactions. You will either be embarrassed and anxious or you will be confident and proud. All too often we experience the first reaction. If you have found yourself avoiding the beach or the pool because you are embarrassed about your body it is time to make a change. Before you run out and buy a lot of supplements and a new home gym machine make sure you understand exactly how to get a great body.

The good news is that getting a body that is beach ready is not as hard as it sounds. The most important thing you need to simply learn is how to “get in shape”. Once you learn how to eat right and what type of exercise to do, getting a good body simply comes down to commitment and the proper habits.

Make this the summer that you get a body that you will be proud to show off. The first thing you want to focus on is diet. Way too many people focus all their energy on working out, but do little to nothing to improve their eating habits. I would say that diet is 80% of improving your body and the gym is about 20%. Make a commitment to eat more healthy.

Eating for a better body is a simple matter of habit. There are a few things you should start avoiding. These food categorizes are probably two of your favorites, fast food and beer. The problem is that these items are making you fat. You will never get a six pack if you keep consuming so much. Instead eat six small meals a day that includes plenty of protein. Try to consume at least a gram of protein for every pound that you weigh. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day and get your daily allotment of vegetables and fruit. Eating right is easy once you establish the right habits. Remember, everything in moderation.

Working out will not only make you feel better, but it will make you look better. It is also actually pretty easy to establish a workout habit. At first it is usually hard to get motivated, but once you get that first compliment on your body you will be hooked. Plus, you will love all the extra energy you will have and you will feel more happy. I would recommend that to get start working out you focus on creating the habit. It takes about 20 days to form a habit, so keep at it. Aim for progress, not perfection. And keep moving forward.

The type of workout you do depends on what type of body you have. If you are super scrawny you should focus on a routine that involves the minimum of cardio for heart benefits and you should really focus on lifting heavy with few reps. If you have a gut and little definition you should focus on a higher intensity training that will burn calories fast and promote muscle development. I have been able to get great results from HIIT training (high intensity interval training).

If you are ready to make this the summer you are proud of your body, make sure you improve your diet and start exercising right. Stay focused and push yourself. You have self-control, just stay positive and keep moving forward. If you mess up, don’t worry about it. You can have some great weight loss, remember think good thoughts. Now go use your universal home gym and get a chiseled summer body.
