For those who own or are thinking about purchasing a daybed, it is important to know a few things about the bedding.  Once upon a time, the sheets and covers used on the twin bed and the daybed were totally interchangeable.  Of course, we are assuming that the daybed is standard size. The mattress used on both the twin and the daybed are the same size.  And, yes, if necessary or in a pinch the bedding used for the twin size single bed can be used to cover the daybed.

However, it bears noting that over the past several years as the daybed sofa has made a resurgence in homes and apartments, designers and manufacturers have begun to realize that this wonderful piece of furniture is more than a bed with a back rail that can be pushed against a wall.  In fact, with new designs and pillow shams, this bed can be totally transformed into a comfortable sofa by day and a single bed by night.

Twin bedding can be used for the daybed — at least the fitted sheet and flat sheet.  However, as mentioned, designers and manufacturers have updated daybed bedding so that it fits the useful piece of furniture perfectly.  For example, a bed skirt designed for the twin bed will have skirting on all four sides.  For the daybed, the bed skirt will be designed for three sides so that there is no bunching of fabric along the back. The comforter will be basically the same, but most often with sets for the daybed there will be an emphasis on pillow shams that will double as sofa cushions for the back.

Aside from the fitted covers and pillow shams, it must be said that one of the advantages of the daybed is that today’s updated styles of bedding are specifically designed to give a far more sophisticated look than in days gone by.  While it is possible to use twin bedding for the daybed, it will never live up to the promise of the newly updated furniture it covers.
