Happy National Prayer Day!
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
The Founding Fathers of America always encouraged prayer and faith. The Continental Congress first call for prayer for the nation was in 1775. The National Prayer Day was made official in 1952 by President Truman who signed a bill into law for National Prayer Day. The National Prayer Day is a day in America when people of all faiths can come together and pray. “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.” – Patrick Henry
Many Presidents throughout history have observe this day by attending events. President Bush has held an prayer event by inviting people of all faiths and holding prayers for the last 8 years.
This year President Obama has ended that tradition. President Obama will only be signing a proclamation that will be sent out in emails today. Also President Obama will not be attending the 5th annual National Catholic Prayer breakfast tomorrow. It is also very sad that President Obama refuses to recognize this nation as a Christian nation and has not attended a church since he became President, except for Easter. May President Obama believe and turn to God, through Jesus Christ and always trust in Him.
I think this nation desperately needs prayers and having President Obama remind everybody of that would have been greatly helpful. Plus, President Obama desperately needs prayers, especially since he is brand new to the Commander in Chief position. May God give President Obama the wisdom to protect this great nation.
The National Day of Prayer Task Force is based in the Judeo-Christian faith, which this nation was founded upon. Their mission is to fight for the freedom of religion in this wonderful nation, where we can choose to believe in any religion or no religion at all. And they also fight to preserve America’s Christian heritage. You can visit their site here and post prayers online at the online prayer rally with tangle.com today.
May God bless America! And may more people put their trust in God!
2009 National Prayer Day!
by Beth Moore, Honorary Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force
Father in Heaven,
We lift our eyes toward Your Throne, where You reign in righteousness.
Your Word assures us that when Your people cry out in sincerity and humility, You will never turn a deaf ear to us.
We call upon You now, seeking Your forgiveness and favor.
Look over this fevered landscape and heal us, Lord.
Drop knees to the floor and raise eyes to the sky, for we know where our help comes from.
Unite these States again in devotion to You, and blur every dividing line.
Do not give us over to our sins. Give us, instead, over to passionate prayer that moves Your heart.
“May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.”
In the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
Amen
