Communion

Happy Holy Thursday!

Today Jesus ate His last supper with His disciples. He instituted the communion and Jesus washed His disciples feet. “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”(John 13:14,15,16,17)

Before we take communion we must remember to repent our sins to God. If there are any sins not confessed, confess them now. We should ask the Holy Spirit within to show us any areas of our heart that need help from Him.

Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” 1 Corinthians 11:27,28,29
Remember the one loaf symbolizes the oneness we have with Jesus. We are children of God. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” (Matthew 26:26) The body of Jesus was soon to be badly beaten and killed. We should remember the terrible suffering that Jesus willingly paid for the price of our sins. Jesus could of asked God to zap Him up to heaven, but He knew His body had to be killed for us. Jesus loves us so much. Jesus became human to remind us that He knows how much we can suffer. He understands us, because He was in a physical body, like us.

The red wine or grape juice symbolizes the blood of Jesus. Jesus took the cup and thanked God and said, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28) Jesus sacrificed His blood for our sins. The blood of Jesus is life, He gave His blood for our eternal life.

Communion is also a reminder for us to look ahead. Jesus first came to serve and His second coming will be to reign. Look ahead to Jesus coming back to earth. Jesus will come again and make all things new. Jesus will reign for a 1,000 years of peace on earth. Are you ready for the rapture? Are you watching these signs of the end times? May we share the love and joy of Jesus quickly.

Communion is a great time to remember the love of Jesus and to recommit our faith to Him.

“Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:53,54)
