Write a Book!
So I do not mean to toot my own horn, but I finished writing my fiction vampire love story book last night! I am so happy and proud of myself. I have mentioned in a previous post, that I joined the crazies and wrote a book in 30 days during the National Novel Writing Month. Check out nanowrimo.org and write a book in a month!
A novel is considered to be 50,000 words at the minimum. There have been a lot of great novels at 50,000 words: The Great Gatsby, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Fahrenheit 451… However, many publishers want novels to be longer in order for them to sell next to the other long books. So I tried in December and January to lengthen my book and I did a bit. My book is now 71,558 words, yes I did want to make it longer, but that is where it ended.
Worrying about word count too much is not good. Telling your story is the important part. I cannot believe that I wrote a book. I have always wanted to, ever since I was a little girl.
Setting a deadline is the most important thing. Many people say they want to write a book, but they have to wait for the time to be right. Or someday they will… Well if you do not set a starting and ending deadline, then that someday may never come.
Next is to set my deadline for editing and to turn my first draft into a wonderful masterpiece!
And yes, you too can write a book in month! How do you know you can‘t, if you do not try?
