Does God Forbid the Death Penalty?

I want to make another point about my Bible study group from my post yesterday. We were discussing the end of Exodus and somehow the death penalty was brought up. And they said, the Bible says God does not want the death penalty. They said, that people often misinterpret, an eye for an eye. And then they said, lets move on, we talked about this months ago. While I was not there months ago.

And I am having a hard time believing that God does not want a murderous evil person who commits blood shed after blood shed of his fellow man, to also have his blood shed in the court system. I think God is for justice. I do not think he wants you to go out and take justice in your own hands, but let the law and courts decide. Why would he want a murderer to continue killing?

Numbers 35:16

16 ” ‘If a man strikes someone with an iron object so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.

Numbers 35:12

12 They will be places of refuge from the avenger, so that a person accused of murder may not die before he stands trial before the assembly.

This is another reason why I don’t think this Bible study group may be right for me. I am a Conservative Christian and believe in certain values. I do not want to be in their group, if they are going to teach what the Bible says, based on their Liberal views.

What do you think?
